Frosh / Soph Meet #2 at Rockland Community College

The Eagles' younger squad competed on Friday, December 18th at the Section 1 Freshman-Sophomore Meet and came away with two firsts and a third as Sofia Maluf captured the 1500m Racewalk, Sarah King won the 1500m run, and Brendan Wortner got down to 4:48 in the 1600m for third. About 18 Eagles were in action, and there are videos of the last 100m of a couple of the races.

ECAC Women's University Race -- Binghamton Bearcats including Paulina Nunez

College teams at Van Cortlandt Park on Saturday, Nov. 21, on a gorgeous day, for once a weekend race without mud. Paulina's Bearcat squad ran in the second women's race, the University race. The course was three loops on the Freshman Hill section with the finish at the Tortoise and Hare. The four sequences are from the entrance to the Cowpath, then a little ways up on the HS finish section, then from a ways down from the woods downslope, and lastly about 1/4 mile from the finish on the west side path.

State Meet at Plattsburgh

The NY XC State Meet at Plattsburgh on November 14 was run in the rain and mud of course during a season of mucky Saturday meets. The girls races were run after the boys, so they got the worst of it, and of course the Class C races were last. On the boys side, Brendan Wortner finished at 21st and Pat Wortner got 22nd, and their Section 1 team was 2nd. Sarah King ran to a personal best to get 9th as her Section 1 team finished 1st and Bronxville won another State team title.

All but one of the segments are from the Class C races, though I couldn't get back from the midway point to the finish for the boys race, which came down to the best duel of the day with Pawling's Brandon Freyer beating reigning champ Max Straneva of Chenango Valley with the 2nd best time of the day behind North Rockland's Nick Hughes in the AA race. Have added three segments from the historic Girls AA race with Fayetteville-Manlius sweep of top 5 spots, and there is also a segment near the beginning of the girls B race at the bottom of the page.

Sectional XC Races

Eagles took 4th in the boys Section 1 Class C race with Patrick and Brendan Wortner earning State title berths in 2nd and 4th and George Epstein taking 10th as Dobbs was the only team to place three runners in the top 10. Pawling won the title and Julian Saliani of Irvington was first.

The Dobbs girls earned their best Sectional place with a 3rd behind Bronxville and Irvington. Sarah King finished 3rd to earn a State title berth and Lauren Hanley broke into the top 20 in her swan song for the Eagles. Caitlin Jelinek of Pawling won the individual title.

Most of the videos are of the Class C races and the JV race, but their are also ones for near the finish of the Class B races and the boys AA race. Apologies for the problem with girls Class C finish as the video storage ran out as Lauren Hanley was approaching the finish and I couldn't get the card restored until just before Rebecca Wiersma approached.

Westchester County Meet at Somers on Halloween

On another soggy course, this time at Somers for the Westchester County XC meet on October 31, the Eagles ran well enough to win six medals in four races in a prep for the Sectionals on November 6. Pat Wortner had another early race tumble but recovered enough to finish 7th overall with Brendan Wortner close behind in 8th. Sarah King got 7th on the girls side, and Chloe Wang lost a shoe in the muck but still socked it up and finished. Grant Sheely sprinted in 8th in the boys freshman race, and Lila Walsh got the Eagles' top place of the day as she got 2nd on the girls side while teammate Rebecca Wiersma finished 9th.

Due to traffic congestion squeezing through the bottleneck to the finish, the boys varsity race only begins as Pat Wortner is crossing the finish with many heads in way.

Section 1 Coaches Meet Races

The long and short of it was mud and more mud, and a steady rain on Saturday, October 24. Eagles ran in the later Varsity 3 races, and the course was badly mucked up by the time they ran. Many runners fell on the hill, and times were much slower than usual. The rain also affected certain cameras, causing one in particular to go into a twittering frenzy during both of the Varsity 3 races, and nothing was filmed of the middle of the girls race or most of the boys later stage and finish except for a fuzzy section when George Epstein finished.

Ah well. Parts of all the Varsity races included except boys Varsity 1 since the team was still in the bus. Also some segments from girls JV.

League Meet 2009 at Sleepy Hollow

Dobbs Ferry joined Irvington, Hastings, Ardsley, Children's Village, Woodlands, and the host school in Sleepy Hollow at Rockwood Hall Park on Tuesday, October 13 under perfect conditions except for a few spots where the gusty wind was in the runners' faces. The Bulldogs, Yellowjackets, Eagles, Panthers, and Headless Horsemen finished 1-2-3-4-5 in both the girls and boys races. Patrick Wortner, Brendan Wortner and George Epstein finished 2, 3, 5 for the Eagles and Sarah King, Lauren Hanley, Lila Walsh, Chloe Wang, and Mary Constant finished 3, 12, 14, 19, 20.

Bobcat Run - 2009, Boys Races

Tough slogging but very nice results for Dobbs Ferry Eagles at the 2009 Byram Hills Bobcat run. After preceding rain the course had some mucky spots, but the "choose your own adventure" option on one section of the course is a big hit with runners. Pat Wortner comes out of woods loops in first and cruises to 1st place. Brendan Wortner grabs 5th, George Epstein takes 20th place medal, and James Majeau takes Dobbs' 4th spot for Eagles, who were a DNS. The rest of the team ran in the freshman race as Harry Wagner grabbed 5th place and Grant Sheely a 7th place medal, and Keith Hickey got 62nd.
